[...] A bicycle bus! I have to admit, I didn’t see one of these when I lived in the Netherlands! (For a bunch of photos of the cool things I did see, however, check out this bicycle photo tour of Groningen.) [...]

Your argument is fundamentally punctured by virtue of what Manning actually did. The information within the WikiLeaks cables provided by Manning were a vast cache of diplomatic and intelligence cables. This information ranged between the assessment of foreign governments by US foreign service officers to the FULL NAMES of Afghan informants and intelligence sources aiding US and NATO forces in the region. I will not attempt to to troll into an argument over the justice of US actions, we are talking about Bradley Manning. First, Manning deliberately leaked this information to a third party and in so doing exposed the informants and intelligence sources within Afghanistan. There is little doubt that this act will place (and may have already placed) lives in danger, both Afghan, American, and our allies in NATO. Secondly, the flaw of your defense for PVT Manning boils down to the nature of what he is: an enlisted soldier in the United States Army. Manning, like all other soldiers, swore an oath to the Constitution and made the choice to wear the uniform of this country. For whatever reason, his actions blatantly betrayed that oath and this country. I mentioned in my previous post that this is not the Pentagon Papers, and for good reason. Daniel Ellsberg was a civilian contractor for DoD and not a uniformed soldier. More importantly, the Pentagon Papers proved the government was lying to the public about VietNam, most directly in the Gulf of Tonken incident. The WikiLeaks cables do not demonstrate a systemic lie from the US government, it shows the government has been doing its job. Foreign service operators gathering intelligence and utilizing Afghan informants are the expected actions of a country at war and nearly all of this was reported on in varying degrees by the press prior to the WikiLeaks cables. The only "dark" info released was the names of the Afghan informants, which Manning provided. If you are motivated, like Julian Assange, to bring down the United States by any means, then congratulations- Manning should be your hero, because he harmed this country in a direct manner. But don't cry foul when you lose a battle against this Republic, as Manning did. He made 2 choices- first to join the US Army and second to betray it. Getting caught was not his choice, but he will bear the consequences of his treason and earn the punishment as an enemy of the United States.

Absolutly!
If you want to read more about the military mindset and the Kennedy assasination
Read James R Douglass's book JKF and the unspeakable. Good insight on the inteligence/military's community's involvement with the conspiracy. I find it fascinating that the military is worried about crucifying this kid and not worried about the war crimes he unearthed.

One of the lines running through the arguments against what Bradley Manning did, is that he is a traitor for revealing army secrets. At what stage of evil should a person decide that he/she has a duty to try to stop it? One of the contributors mentions that he had served in Iraq but what for? In the 50 or so years that I've been following world events the US has been involved in places such as ;- Chile,Nicaragua,ElSalvador,Venezuela,Vietnam,Cambodia,Libya,Iraq,Haiti,Afghanistan and Cuba. This is not even a definite list but I think it goes without saying that none of these places were improved by the US campaigns. In fact, most of them suffered huge damage, many bombed back into the Dark Ages and hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost and I ask what for? In the meantime the US has millions of it's own citizens living below the poverty line. I think more whistle blowers are needed.

It hasn't been credible for a long time - even Kissenger has it! Manning might just bring a bit of prestige to it.
