San Francisco’s Castro District Celebrates Supreme Court Marriage Equality Decision
Yesterday the streets of San Francisco were overflowing with crowds of ecstatic citizens overjoyed with the US Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling. Enormous rivers of diverse individuals, couples and families flowed onto Market Street and into the Castro District, swirling together into a dense sea of joyous celebratory electricity. It was a truly beautiful sight to behold.

As the warm shining sun slowly set over San Francisco, the elated crowds grew larger and their enthusiasm was overwhelming. The importance of this moment in civil rights history was very apparent, and many people (myself included) shed emotional tears of joy for this transformative marriage equality decision.
Neighbors and friends, children and politicians, all joined each other to share in the thrill of this important legal success; though in the midst of the happy throng, I overheard one of the insightful Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Sister Missionary Position, explain to a shirtless young man that in spite of this important victory for equality:
“The struggle has just begun.”
