Lately it seems like each day brings on another oppressive new attack upon women’s health. From Georgia trying to further restrict access to medically necessary pregnancy terminations, to frothy Rick Santorum wanting to make all birth control illegal in the entire country, radical misogyny appears to be flourishing.
And although it now appears that Virginia is trying to furiously backpedal on their proposed forced vaginal probes mandated by the state prior to being able to have an abortion, seven states already require ultrasounds before a woman is allowed to terminate her pregnancy, even if she has been raped.
We Love Planned Parenthood
These recent insidious right wing assaults upon women have been relentless, but many communities are fighting back against such misguided attacks by extremists.
For example, in western Washington local citizens joined together to help protect women’s access to health care, and organized weekly demonstrations in front of the local Planned Parenthood clinic. Scores of dedicated residents stood in front of the neighborhood Olympia medical center, throughout all kinds of weather, to show just how much they love and appreciate access to health care.
Some of the activists behind the Olympia Loves Planned Parenthood movement have created a “40 Days of Real Life” youtube channel for individuals to better share information and personal stories, as well as to help get their important message out to the public at large:
“Olympia Loves Planned Parenthood is creating this youtube channel as a counter presence to the 40 Days for Life anti-choice campaign. We are hoping this channel can give voice to the songs, thoughts, and stories of those affected most by the reality of reproductive health and justice issues.”
