U.S. Killing Own Citizens with Military Drones

secret drone

“What does it mean for a democracy when the government wages a secret war?”

This question was posed by Chris Hayes on the Rachel Maddow Show recently, as he detailed how the U.S. government is now using remote-controlled military drones to kill its own citizens.

Innocent until Proven Guilty?

The Guardian newspaper describes how our government’s drones were clandestinely used in Yemen to kill fellow U.S. citizen, Anwar al-Awlaki, who had never even been charged with a crime. He was just a suspect. Two weeks later, his young teenage son was also murdered by U.S. drones, while he was in Yemen looking for his father.

The presumption of innocence was once understood as the very foundation of our civil rights under United States law.

In the light of these horrific murders, as well as President Obama signing “indefinite detention” into law —  the misguided belief that our government can now somehow legally secretly kidnap and indefinitely imprison anyone, anywhere on the planet, as long as they are suspected of “terrorism” — it seems that our constitutionally guaranteed civil right to remain innocent until we have been proven guilty no longer applies to any of us.

Massive Global Assassination Plan

While speaking at the launch of a new international journal, State Crime, Noam Chomsky spoke out against Obama’s growing use of these violent unconstitutional methods, the illegal and immoral U.S. secret drone assassinations without charge or trial across the globe:

“For Chomsky, this practice goes far beyond what he called the Bush administration’s ‘kidnapping’ to Guantanamo Bay. The current strategy is, he claimed, developing into a massive global assassination campaign”

The violent brutal war that is now being waged upon us is not only a highly classified military secret, our murders are also being funded by our own tax dollars, and viciously perpetrated against us by our very own government. Are we still living in a democracy?
