This gripping iconic photo was taken two days ago by seattlepi.com photographer Joshua Trujillo at an OccupySeattle protest at Westlake Park. The image is of an 84 year old woman who has just been pepper sprayed by the police only moments before. Her eyes are red and swollen, seared with dripping chemicals and painful tears.

Last week the musician Makana sang his freshly written protest song “We are the Many” before world leaders at the APEC conference in Hawaii. He had been invited to play only instrumental music at the fancy dinner last week, but when the performer took the stage, Makana opened his jacket to show a shirt which read: “Occupy with Aloha”. Instead of performing the innocuous instrumental set that he was supposed to play, he started to serenade the guests with a protest anthem that he had just written about the Occupy Wall Street movement
