4. Fresh Eggs May Be Healthier
May, is an important term because large corporate farms don’t want you to know how their chickens are treated and the type of conditions in which they live. Therefore there is little written comparing the safety of homegrown eggs in comparison to those coming from a factory. Common sense shows us all we need to know. At home, chickens eat bugs, weeds, produce that’s being thrown out along with traditional chicken feed. The more varied their diet, the better and this is seen at most indie farms. Many corporate farms feed their chickens corn and soy, not because they are the healthiest choice, but because they are the cheapest. Sustainable Table reports that eggs coming from chickens fed these sub par diets are generally lower in omega-3 fatty acids and Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Why go with the less nutritious choice?
