Safari ants invaded my house just before heavy rains...they were moving uphill...some came in under frontdoor...passed through kitchen and out through backdoor. Months later I found a small colony housed in a cardboard box on a high shelf.I watched and discovered they came out at night and worked the kitchen singly.I also noticed that there were absolutely NO cockroaches around ..though we had had a problem with these and found them difficult to exterminate absolutely.I remembered reading years ago about a certain species of ant which eat up cockroahes and their eggs...so decided to keep my little box of ants since they were no problem during the day and were doing a friendly job at night.
Ants rehoused themselves into a dried coconut shell,,,then again into a kitchen foil carton where they are at present...and everyone is under instruction not to disturb my special pets. They are brownish and about a centimetre in lenght..no pincers!Haven't seen a cockroach in 7 years:)
