1BOG Brings Power of Group Solar to New Jersey

It’s the secret that so many big box retailers already know: prices are lower when you buy in bulk. San Francisco-based 1 Block off the Grid has taken that mindset and applied it to solar power with amazing results. Now, the company is adding its very first east coast solar campaign in northern New Jersey.

From now through April 12th, homeowners in Sussex, Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Morris, Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset, Union and Middlesex counties can sign up for the plan. Participants get to enjoy a rate of $5.45 per watt, or about 16% less than 2009 solar rates in the area. That’s huge!

1BOG teamed up with New Jersy solar installed The Solar Center. The Solar Center CEO, Ed Steins said:

As a local company dedicated to advancing solar energy adoption, we are pleased to have been selected to serve 1BOG’s New Jersey community. New Jersey is second only to California in installed solar capacity, and this joint campaign will help solidify its place as a leader in the U.S. solar landscape.

Thanks to state incentive programs and a solar loan program from local utility PSE&G, New Jersey is on its way to reaching its lofty goal of getting 30% of its energy from renewables by 2020 and 2.12% from solar by 2012.

North Jerseyites who are interested in the program can learn more by visiting the 1BOG NJ Solar page. You might also want to check out their free webinar and informational session on Thursday, February 18 at 7pm.

Now that 1BOG has planted the solar flag on the east coast, you have to wonder what lucky city will be next! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Atlanta.
