Supporting Small Business with the 3/50 Project

Not to be confused with 350.org, the 3/50 project is all about making a conscious effort to keep the little guy afloat.

The basic philosophy behind The 3/50 Project is that buying local is better for the economy, and Cinda Baxter who runs the site breaks it down nicely:

If half the population spent $50 each month in locally owned independent businesses, it would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. Imagine the positive impact if 3/4 of the employed population did that.

That’s $50 total spread across three businesses, not even $50 apiece.

What’s so green about small business?

Supporting small businesses is a powerful way to vote with your pocketbook. You can really get to know the folks who run these businesses, where the products come from, and how they manage things like waste disposal.

Unlike big box stores, the decision-makers at these companies tend to live in the communities where they’re doing business. They care about their impact, and they’re more likely to listen to what their customers have to say.
