Bull Drowns After Horns Set on Fire During Spanish Fiesta
Five minutes after a bull’s horns were set ablaze, the frantic animal dove into the sea to extinguish the fire and drowned. The event took place during the Bous a la Mar fiesta, an annual fiesta that takes place each September in Javea, Spain, to honor Our Lady of Loreto.

During the Bous a la Mar, or Bulls to the Sea, several bulls are unloaded in a paddock. Fireworks are lit, scaring the bulls one-by-one into an open area near the sea. As spectators look on, young men taunt and lure the bulls, hoping they will fall into the water.
Councillor Pepa Chorro reportedly set the bull’s horns on fire. According to reports, she said the bull seemed “nervous” since this was the first time it had ever participated in the fiesta! A few minutes after its horns were set on fire, the “agitated” bull dove into the sea and drowned. Although boats were used to help guide the bulls safely back to land, the crew was unable to keep this particular animal’s head above water.
Many fiestas and festivals around the world resort to cruel and
inhumane treatment of bulls, according to CAS International, an organization that works to abolish bullfighting and cruel fiestas internationally. Each year, over 30,000 bulls and other animals are tortured or killed during fiestas, with most occurring in Spain, according to CAS.

It’s time Spain lost these cruel and archaic traditions.
These people make me sick. Setting an animal on fire…seriously? How on earth did that become a tradition in the first place? Unbelievable…
DAMN that’s wrong!
My God, where’s the international petition from PETA to stop this insanity? What’s wrong with people? How do the Spanish remain so de-sensitized to such things? And please don’t quote me the “tradition of the ages” excuse. Humans have a long way to go to be a part of the word HUMANITY.
