8-Year-Old and Grandma Caught Poaching Tigers
A shocking discovery by forest guards in the Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve exposes a family business built on killing tigers.
Learning from grandma is usually a good thing. But not this time: An eight-year-old boy and his grandmother were arrested after laying a steel trap to kill a tiger.
The pair was caught adjacent to the Indo-Nepal border, in the Manguraha jungle area.

Family business
The Times of India reports that the grandmother, Sundar Devi, is the wife of notorious poacher Dhariya Singh - who is currently serving time in the Bettiah jail over a tiger poaching incident in 2006.
Divisional Forest Officer, S Chandrashekhar, noted that it was Dhariya’s 2006 case that brought the use of steel traps to the attention of authorities. It was then discovered that a nomadic tribe from Haryana - to which Dhariya belongs - had been using the traps in the Valmikinagar jungles.
Dhariya reportedly is the ringleader of a poaching gang that is active along the Bihar-Nepal border, Madya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and UP.
Officials from Project Tiger explained that Dhariya’s family has a major role in a wildlife poaching syndicate operating on the Indo-Nepal border.
Unfortunately, Dhariya’s family business appears to be operating without him.
The demand for tiger body parts is expected to skyrocket as China prepares to celebrate the Year of the Tiger in 2010 - driving India’s endangered tigers closer to extinction in the wild.

Poor tigers, they become so rare… I am satisfied that the grandmother was finally arrested but it is sad that a little boy aged 8 years old be involved in that case. If you want more green news, have a look on this website which is very interesting too: Green Times

So, the year of the tiger in China is going to drive the species closer to extinction; too sad.
It’s tough to watch ignorant people destroy something of beauty but how do you educate the whole of China or nomadic tribes…
