Unfortunately, the only way (that I can think of from here in Australia) to encourage the Spanish Government to legislate against this sort of activity is to hit them where it hurts – the tourism dollars. They simply don’t listen to “bleeding hearts” like us because their conscience tells them to. If the “vast majority” truly hates this festival then would the government not listen to them for fear of losing the next election to a party that promises to do so?

I already support the activities of groups such as PETA and the RSPCA here in Australia who do their part to encourage the banning of animal cruelty and raise awareness in all countries (not just Spain)…every little bit counts.

What you have to fight against is not Spain itself, is the people who still support this horrible stuff. I’m spanish and like a lot of people (vast majority, by the way) I do NOT support this kind of “festivals”.

A lot of Spanish people hate this, I don’t know why you are treating us all like if we were just the same.

Also, please measure your words carefully when saying things like “We must boycot Spain”, “Spain should be avoided as a tourist destination”, “Spain is not a civilised or humane country”.

As I read that I feel insulted, just because a few savage people catch media attention, the majority of my country don’t have to be like that.

Think about it. Spain is not just those few people.

Not every spanish people like this horrible stuff. In fact, most non elder people HATE it.

Please measure your words carefully before throwing bullshit (“let’s boycot Spain”) about something you have NO IDEA about. We all are NOT the same.

I pray and hope that all the humane and ethical Spaniards who are protesting against these barbarous acts of cruelty can successfully stop the next horrible act of ritual torture- that of Moscatel- and shame overseas tourists who encourage these tragic events.

Spain should be avoided as a tourist destination and kicked out of the EU until it grows a conscience!
