[...] Making their entry onto the world news stage sometime in 2005/06, these Brown Clouds have no precise beginning in time, but are accumulations of soot and other combustion byproducts (mostly hydrocarbons) that have killed an unknown number of infants, asthmatics and elderly in these regions, and, it is claimed, are responsible for the suffocation of whole herds of livestock. More recently, brown clouds have been linked to the melting of the Himalayan and Hindu Kush glaciers (read my 2009 blog post). [...]

Don't blame the CO2!

The icecore drillings in the Himalaya's shows that the atomare tracers from the late 50s and beginning 60s A-bomb test (surface blasting)is newer found in the Himalayan icecore drillings....they are pressent in the Antarctic and Arctic drillings and other places around the world.....it tell us that there was NO accumulation of snow/ice since that time and short time before....Brown clouds do not make it better.

The melting Himalaya is an old story...about 50 years old

Kind regards from Greenland

I saw a news article 8? - years ago, about an incredible example of reycling, in India, where a 40 gallon steel drum was 2/3 filled with liquid cow-dung and a gas-tight lid (not exactly easy !) with a pipe emanating, fitted. This apparently supplied a little kooker similar to my own, with methane. A treble "Whammee" at least !
1)end of firewood for cooking
2)Methane is many times worse than CO2 as a "greenhouse gas", I believe
3)What to do with a lovely old oil-drum (with airtight lid
4) When "dun", it supplies a load of potting compost as a "thankyou" !
It is equivalent, in my list of good investments, with the polythene greenhouse near the sea and the desert, which - by virtue of much water-pipe and a small circulating pump, produces fresh water (from condensation), and a space in which plants will grow.
