As August rapidly approaches, summer is heating up! New Yorkers have found a unique way to cool off. The New York Times explains:
On a rented lot that’s hidden from the street they have erected what they call a lo-fi urban country club: three connected pools housed in Dumpsters; a boccie court; some lounge chairs, grills and cabanas…The idea, said David Belt, a real estate developer and the president of Macro-Sea, the company behind the pools, was not to create an exclusive party destination but to experiment with underused space and materials, repurposing them with urban renewal in mind.
The dumpsters were donated by a construction company. Of course the dumpsters have been cleaned and lined before pool parties begin, and liability insurance and filtration systems are a must.
Designers around the world are finding unique uses for the surplus of dumpsters and shipping containers the economic downturn has created. From hotels built from shipping containers in England to now swimming pool dumpsters in New York City, “reduce, reuse, recycle” is taking a new direction.

I don’t know how comfortable I’d be swimming in a dumpster no matter how many times they cleaned it.
I also don’t know if I’d swim in a dumpster either. Sounds like a set up for a horror movie. They better of used a powerful pressure washer for these dumpsters.
