Curbside Recycling Should Be Standard Service

So close but no curbside recycling.

If I lived two or three miles to the west, in Flushing, I’d have curbside recycling, but no I have to collect all my stuff and haul it to downtown Flint to CBC Recycling.

Or wait and go early on a Saturday morning to the once a month recycling collection that Mt. Morris Township offers.

Sorry, I’ll go at my own leisure. Which usually ends up being once every couple months.

I really think curbside recycling programs should be a standard service right along with regular garbage collection.

I recycle because it is the right thing to do, even when I have to listen to my family complain about separating everything then hauling it to the recycling center. Yes, it can be a pain, especially this time since we have not taken in the stuff in months and the tiny little room the bins are in was stuffed to the max, we could barely open the door to get in there.

And that’s after trying to cut down on what we buy and all the packaging stuff comes in, but we recycle everything-paper, boxes, cans, plastic, glass and then soda cans and bottles are separate because they go back to the store to get the deposit refund.

I have contacted my local township numerous times to try to get curbside recycling added to our garbage collection but so far no luck. I really think more people would recycle if the service was offered. With everyone focusing on going green it’s hard to believe some places (like here) don’t offer this service but I guess with the economy and the fact that whoever can is getting the heck out of Michigan, recycling isn’t big on the must do list right now.

Perhaps some day in the future I can just haul the recycling bins out to the road alongside my trash and not have to drive out of my way to drop off the stuff destined to become something new. Life would be so much easier.
