That is a very impressive technological advancement.
I love it very much.

I am not from a structural technology background.
However, I have a few question to ask:

1. How fast will it heal itself when it is strained.
(ie. will it be able to repair itself fast enough in a medium to strong quake?)

2. If assumed that it will repairs itself fast – will this be a roadblock or obstacle for rescuer to do or perform rescue work if the structure is being tested over its intended threshold.

Is this material presently available in the market place? If so, in what markets and what is the availability and is it compertitive with present day
portland(type I) cement?

My understanding is that the specially coated fibres (which is the basis of the invention) within the bendable concrete changes its characteristics significantly. Have a look athttp://www.ns.umich.edu/htdocs/releases/story.php?id=7106 and you’ll see some amazing photos.

Good article. I have one question – There is a statement that the concrete “doesn’t require any reinforcing steel”. It is my understanding that concrete has low tensile strength hence the need for reinforcing steel if there are tensile forces. Wouldn’t reinforcing steel still be needed? Thanks.
