I would say that growing organic is pretty important, too. Not only are many conventional fertilizers petroleum-based, the excess runs off into the groundwater, causing contamination.

Its not all about the food being organic man, its cutting back on the pollution caused by transportation.
Check out this site http://www.religioustolerance.org/tomek33.htm. According to Brian Halweil from the World Watch Institute, a meal of meat, grain, fruit, and vegetables accounts for 4 to 17 times as much petroleum if it comes from afar than if a consumer buys the ingredients locally. The fuel burned to transport and refrigerate the food contributes to global warming. If the food is right across the street you can just go pick it up yourself. It makes more sense for the business and the environment.

Interesting post! Is organic always better for the environment? There’s a lot of doubt surrounding which methods/products are truly sustainable and which are just green washing. Check out our myth-busting video “What’s Your Big Green Lie?!” which gives a taste of the widespread ignorance of green issues at http://www.biggreenlies.com.
