I do think it is a great thing that Consumers Energy is offering everyone the chance to go green. It is about time we have options, too bad they cost more, but don’t they always?

I want green power and I’m going to sign up for it, but I’m afraid many people won’t, at least not right now.

Michigan’s economy is struggling. Too many people can’t pay their bills already, they aren’t going to add on an extra expense when they can not afford to pay their energy bills. Even though it is a small expense it will add up quickly.

The premium price is around .02 per kilowatt hour if you join the GreenTeam. Or if you want to buy blocks of green energy, known as GreenBlocks, you pay $2.50 for 150 kilowatt hours.

I calculated that at .02 per kWh multiplied by 150 it would be $3.00. So it is cheaper to purchase it by the block. Just look at your last bill to see how many kWh’s you used to see how many blocks you need to purchase.

I may not start out by going green for my whole energy bill but I at least want to try and make a difference so I am going to buy a couple green block every month, in addtion to trying to lower the amount of kWh’s that I use. I was rather shocked when I checked my bill and seen how many were used last month. I don’t have anything to compare it to though, so I don’t know if that is really high for a family of five or not.
