Experience Alternative Fuel Vehicles at AltCar
If you’re pondering your next choice of vehicle, then Santa Monica’s AltCar, the Alternative Energy and Transportation Expo, is the place for you this weekend. The event features 100 eco-friendly vehicles for test drives and for sale, including:
- zero-emission electric cars and trucks
- hybrids
- plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, rated in excess of 100 miles per gallon
- vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells, natural gas, propane, biodiesel and ethanol
Chevrolet’s new production Volt will also have its West Coast debut at the event.
In addition to the test drives, speakers and activities will be plentiful. Panels include discussions on climate change, futuristic mass transit, and the media. Over 10,000 people are expected to attend.
The Expo’s goal is to give consumers the chance to test drive alt-fuel cars, to experience them for themselves. “Consumers have never been blessed - and cursed - with so many transportation options, and the choices they make will dramatically impact the quality of the air we breathe,” said Santa Monica AltCar’s keynote speaker Terry Tamminen, former secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency. “AltCar Expo provides an unmatched opportunity to learn about today’s most responsible and economical transportation choices.”
In its third year, the free event will be held at the Santa Monica Civic Center at 1885 Main Street from 10am - 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday. For the first time, the event will be recreated in Austin, Texas on October 17th and 18th.

There’s also a debate between all the alternative fuel experts, which has potential to be quite exciting and at very least informative.
