Bill McKibben Steps It Up In Support of San Francisco’s Prop H

Bill McKibben has announced his support for San Francisco’s Clean Energy Act (Propistion H). Prop H promises to move San Francisco towards 100% renewable energy in just three decades.

Bill McKibben is the founder of Step It Up, what some have noted as the largest American demonstration about climate change to date. He is also an author and frequently writes about global warming, alternative energy, and the risks associated with human genetic engineering.

From the San Francisco Clean Energy Act website:

CLEAN ENERGY

The Clean Energy Act will ensure that San Francisco will build enough solar, wind power, and conservation projects to give the City 100% clean energy within just three decades. It will make San Francisco a worldwide leader in the fight against global warming and catastrophic climate change. Greenhouse gasses from our energy supply are the greatest source of carbon emissions on the planet. The time to go clean is now.

CLIMATE CRISIS

The San Francisco Clean Energy Act is a strong response to global warming. Already the writing is on the wall: melting polar ice caps, record temperatures, extreme weather patterns. We are on an unsustainable collision course with nature that could lead to our ultimate destruction unless our generation acts quickly and decisively to change the course of history.

GREEN ECONOMY

The San Francisco Clean Energy Act will make San Francisco the hub of the new green economy and generate thousands of jobs in the emerging clean energy industry. It requires a Green Jobs workforce development plan to train and employ workers building the City’s renewable energy infrastructure. Now is the time to usher in the Green Economy in San Francisco.

Bill McKibben- Luddiite extraordinaire. His book Enough made me want to spit.

    Form his website: Enough-
“McKibben offers a celebration of what it means to be human, and a warning that we risk the loss of all meaning if we step across the threshold”

What a load of BS. What it means to be human, please tell us Bill. According to him it means to apply the precautionary principle to all sorts of technology- funny it always seems to be tech that might challenge his faith. He’s a scared man. More concerned with himself then the rest of the world regardless of his environmental work. The facts on the ground show that only technology can feed the worlds poor. Only work on anti-aging can help reduce or eliminate physical suffering. bah, I’m done.

  2. SuperMan says:

Hey Stupendous Man, what does that have to do with clean energy? Prop H requires SF to stop using ages old, dirty fossil fuel technology. If anything his support of Prop H and the green jobs it will produce does not qualify him as a luddite. Only the technology championed by Prop H will clean up our air and fight global warming at the same time.
