Santa Monica Celebrates Sustainability with a Week of Events

For the next week, the City of Santa Monica is featuring a variety of events related to sustainability. With so much going on, you’re sure to find an event of interest to you.

 

  • 9/18: Find out about the successes and challenges of building a sustainable city at the 2008 Sustainable City Report Card Update at the Santa Monica Main Library, 7pm
  • 9/21: Take part in a community potluck, a natural cob building workshop, permaculture design class, seed planting, live art, and more at the Westside Permaculture Festival at Sustainable Works and Santa Monica College, 12pm

  • 9/22: Join green living expert Barent Roth for an overview of living a green life at Sustainable Works’ Green Living Workshop at the Santa Monica Main Library, 6pm
  • 9/24: Learn how to protect your family from unnecessary chemical exposure and discover other green parenting tips at Greening Your Home for Parents at the Santa Monica Main Library, 6pm
  • 9/25: Celebrate the recent remodel and 4th anniversary of Global Green’s Green Building Resource Center’s Open House, 2218 Main Street, 5-7pm. The event will feature giveaways, food, a raffle, and presentations of successful green projects.
  • 9/25: See the film, The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil, Santa Monica Main Library, 7pm.
  • 9/26 - 27: Capping off the week, explore the 3rd Annual AltCar Expo, which features current and future energy and transportation solutions at the Santa Monica Civic Aditorium, 10am - 5pm both days.

As a leader in sustainability, the City of Santa Monica provides the opportunity to learn a lot about what it takes to become a sustainable community. Get out there and check it out!
