Uhhh, I'm glad the little frog is alive and all, but what did the scientists do to save it? They caught it, photographed it, and let it go. Did they pull it out of the mouth of a croc? Did they take it away from their cook who was going to have it for dinner? So, I don't see any "saving" going on.

Not even the almighty American Economy can continue sentimental capitalism's assault on world ecology. It is imploding with banking going first, credit systems next, General Motors up to bat next for building 'Vettes" instead of eco-boxes! then the entire military/industrial complex because, no money = no war chest = no use for them!
Secure in the notion that my 'zero running cost, zero upkeep home' dream is still possible, and hoping a greenhouse full of gardening and aqua-culture (and a few chickens), can save my wrinkling old ass from exposure and extreme hunger and cold, I really don't care. The Eco-offenders will get what is coming to them, won't they!
My jaundiced acquaintances with Hummers and McMansions and credit card debt will soon change their attitudes, but soon will not be soon enough, will it! They may die in the same hardship they imposed on the Ecosystem - fitting, and very Zen isn't it!
The Great Depression is upon us. It will stop the assault on the ecosystem cold, and, as fast as the ecosystem
was degraded, it will heal itself, but the Great Depression will go on for a while after that - Mother nature has been scorned, and there is no wrath greater than Mother Nature scorned. We will pay!

My friend Saruman,

It is true, the majority of frogs put their eggs and leave them in a "good place". However, a few species -such as the one of the article- carry their eggs in their vocal sacs or their abdomens or backs.

These frogs have a different reproductive strategy. They laid less amount of eggs because they invest more of their time on the success of their offspring. Moreover, they are other type of frogs that even carry their young inside their mouth or on their back. ;)
