Green Biz Leaders Push for Obama Win

Cleantech & Green Business Leaders for Obama (Cleantech for Obama, or CT4O) kicked off its campaign in San Francisco this week. The organization plans to hold fund-raising events across the country to collect at least $1 million to support Obama’s campaign.

Some of the group’s coming events include a Sept. 7 “Barbecue for Barack” in Durham, North Carolina, and an Oct. 11 “Baracktoberfest” in San Francisco.

“Barack Obama is the only candidate who has a detailed clean energy plan of Apollo moon-mission scale, based on aggressively accelerating the deployment of technologies that work right now as well as the development of even better solutions in the future,” CT40’s Website says.

The CT4O campaign takes on new importance in the wake of John McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate. Palin, who has served as governor of Alaska for 20 months, advocates more drilling across the U.S. — including in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR) — rather than increased development of clean and renewable energy sources as a way toward energy independence.

Palin has also expressed doubts about the human causes of climate change, and has sued the federal government to keep the polar bear from being listed as an endangered species.

Among CT40’s co-chairs are Jeff Anderson, Josh Becker, Andrew Beebe, Steve Boyd, Jonathan Burgstone, Aimee Christensen, Sunil Paul, Jason Scott, Steve Schiller and Sanjay Wagle. Honorary co-chairs include U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle; Dick Swanson, founder, president and CTO of SunPower Corp.; former EPA administrator Carol Browner; former California state controller Steve Westly and David Blood, former CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
