Considering everyone's right to equal rights in the States, I certainly hope that our backwards laws on this issue will recognize same-sex marriages across the board soon. I am a proud California native and happy to see this coming to fruition in my home state.

However, I'd hardly call the desire for same-sex marriage equality an American export. When I went to Europe in 2002, I coincidentally ended up in Berlin on the day of their Pride Parade. The enormous central park promenade was absolutely covered with men and women enjoying the freedom of one sacred day when they don't have to worry about dealing with anyone staring.

Here, in South Korea, there is not much cultural recognition of same-sex couples, but in Seoul and Busan, there are gay scenes, and no doubt, there are people who desire to be married.

Overall, I just think it's important to note that when the United States recognizes same-sex marriages as a whole, which I believe won't happen for a long time, I would certainly not call any ensuing influence of tolerance/acceptance of same-sex couples or marriages in any other country an "export".

I think we all have to embrace modern ethics and say that everyone is entitled to a wedding; and that wedding should be green and ethical.
Consider it another US idea imported to the UK!
