Greetings from Finland. (One of the top 3 countries when it comes to the amount of internet connections per person, btw...)

I heard in the news about the energy consumption of the internet and decided to learn more, then I ended up here and read this article. I really haven't realized either, how big a problem Internet is from the enviromental point of view. Many people pay much attention to their daily choises because they know what they should and should not do, but most people - I believe - do not yet realize, how their daily surfing and the vaste amount of unuseful homepages etc. affects the enviroment. More information is needed.

Thank you for the article, these are important issues.

HUH, that's suprising...lol, I bet this is going though a data center as soon as I send it...oh better stop typing that's just more data, which means more carbon dixocide in the air....well really the internet was created in the wake of ultra-cheap energy and it's going to bite us in the @$$ sooner or later, when the worlds energy resorces are streached further and what scares me so much is how much we now realy on the internet now-a-days, and it practicly has another earth inside of it...I mean there is whole stock trading markets on the internet, Etrade, Scotttrade...ect...scary, wow that was more that I had planned to type, oh well. I guess I'll just wrap it up, this is fun to know that the more you type the more you are contributing to Global warming...but think about it, the servers, the home computers then the powerlines that they travel on...it's just absoultuely crazy when you think about it...I mean really as of now we have used almost half of the fossil fuels that took probably half a billion years to make, weird thought when you think about it, the industrial revolution really took off at the turn of the 20th century...it's only been about 110 years. it took 110 years to burn up half a billion. CRAZY!!
