Should recycling be a feel-good choice or a legal requirement? CNN and EcoWorldly compare recycling in South Korea and the United States of America. Take a look at some of the benefits that South Korea has reaped as a country through its successful recycling program.

It’s so great that South Korea has required everyone to recycle. It only makes sense! I wish the U.S. government would implement some kind of program like this one. It seems very successful and may even create new jobs!
Yay South Korea. Does me proud.
After viewing this piece, I must say that recycling initiatives displayed in this part of Korea are not that much different than those practiced in many parts of the Greater Toronto Area in Canada.
Although the city streets are not communal sorting depots like those seen in the video, each house is equipped with a blue recycling bin (now available in various sizes) and a green compost bin. Recently, city officials put a fee on anything more than one garbage bag per household during pickups in an effort to curb waste. We will see how this pans out, but all points are there for effort. Sadly, from what I see here and from what I have heard from US-bound travellers, the all-in-one waste system is still alive and well down there.
I think this is a really good idea, although I’m not sure making recycling mandatory is always necessary. San Francisco has seen a very successful recycling program take hold without it being mandatory.
I think this is a great idea for the u.s especialy with the economy as bad as it is. This will provide jobs as well as less air pollution. What we do in America effects the whole world. Some countries are trying verry hard to save our planet and they need our help! So come on America and help the people of the the world by by putting your so called garbage into a bin instead of a bag. Its just that easy!
waste of time, money, effort, etc. Only thing we need to recycle are aluminum cans.
I think that everyone should recycle. It will keep the world a better place.
i think it should be the peoples choice if they want to recycle or not. Yeah it helps the envirinment, but there shouldnt be like a law or anything telling people that you have to.
I agree with ((amy)) it will do us good too! http://environment.about.com/b/2008/02/21/why-is-recycling-not-mandatory-in-all-us-cities.htm

I DISAGREE with Sam.
wow its amazing that they recycling.
recycling should be madatory!.Because im CELENA! I say so get at me.
I think South Korea is awesome we should do that here in Mexico. I don’t think it should be mandatory, but people who do want to do should be able to get free bins and stuff hey its not everyone but at least it helps
i think recyling should be mandatory here in the u.s. we would be doing sumthing that wuld actually help the earth besides cutting down forests
I think recycling should be mandatory everywere. why not? It benefits everyone even the animals. Why spend thousands of dollars on a “plan” and all that when we can all just put a box of recycled things at the end of our drive way. The trash people could even pick it up and put it in a seperate compartment. That would save everyone alot of work. Volenteers (like myself) could sort out all the recycled goods out later. I hate when people say “Don’t tell me to recycle” or “Get off your high green horses” It’s like, no I won’t! I am fighting for my planet and so if you don’t want to, too bad. I have the right to live in a clean environment and so if you are to lazy to recycle when all your doing is putting it in a different box…too bad. Get over it. (And yes i think mandatory recycling should be a law!!)
