Learn How to Go Water-, Carbon-Neutral
Floridians will have a chance to learn how to create water-neutral landscaping, reduce their carbon footprints and develop green businesses and jobs during a Climate Action Summit on Friday, March 28, in Tallahassee.
The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center, and online registration is available. The summit is being hosted by Leon County and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives.
Summit organizers say the day-long event offers “something for just about everyone.” Throughout the day, programs will focus on three primary tracks: homeowners/neighborhoods, business and land-use/transportation. An additional “Experiential Learning Track” will offer hands-on opportunities for learning how to combat climate change, as well as a chance to view a high-tech energy exhibit at the Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Science.
Among the programs scheduled for the summit: a general session on “Climate Change: What We Know and Why Action is Urgent,” led by Robert Doyle, a professor of urban and regional planning at Florida State University; “Landscaping Green,” with tips for water-neutral, carbon-neutral landscaping and land stewardship; and a program on “Building Green,” moderated by Tim Center, the executive director of Sustainable Florida.
Local government officials and staff members will also have a chance to network and learn more about Florida’s climate and energy initiatives during a day-long, pre-summit event on Thursday, March 27.
