Georgia Gardeners Welcome ‘Manure Day’

Which is why the Little Creek Farm Conservancy in Decatur, Georgia, will hold one of its semi-annual “Manure Days” this Saturday.

A DeKalb County horse farm that rescues abused horses and offers riding lessons, Little Creek Farm offers composted horse manure to area gardeners twice a year. On this coming Manure Day, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a leaf bag’s worth of horse-created natural fertilizer will go for $5, while really gung-ho gardeners can fill the back of their pickup truck for $25.

Proceeds from Manure Day sales go toward supporting organic pasture management.

Composted horse manure not only adds nutrients to soil but attracts earthworms that help to both break down organic matter and aerate planting beds.

To learn more, call Little Creek Farm at 404-422-1383, or make plans to drop by on Saturday. The farm is located at 2057 Lawrenceville Highway.
