[...] Korea Excels at Recycling; Koreans Unaware - (ecolocalizer.com) “In fact, homes and businesses all over Korea recycle and compost as a general rule. More than 40% of solid waste is recycled and about 55% of food waste is composted as fertilizers and feed. Still, the recycling laws behind these successes are only part of the puzzle. Koreans, it seems, don’t fully appreciate their country’s recycling system…“ [...]

That's pretty interesting being that I am Korean and was raised there until I was about seven years old. I am so proud of my old country!!!!

I remember having recycling bins in Augsburg, Germany and there was also a mandatory recyling program when we lived there back in the 90's. (I am a military brat, can you tell?)

It seems like the rest of the world are advanced on Environmental Issues. I hope the U.S. will decide to catch up. I guess it's up to us to start and teach our children to continue.

Of course there should be mandatory recycling of everything possible, as a national law, in every country! This is a world-wide situation. As far as the USA, we continue to dream we are leaders. An analogy occurs to me right now: we are the super-fast rabbit who thought he would nap. Now all the turtles have passed us long ago. Waking up will be a shock.

How many people know about the area of the ocean covered with plastic, north of Hawaii? It is the size of France. This is due to easy disposal in coastal cities or from boats.

Don't people realize, it is like dumping the garbage from your kitchen pail, onto the floor of your living room. WE LIVE HERE!

The best to recycling is to motivate people separating the type of garbages and let collector/gov. agency manage them properly. Once it is a culture, recycling will runs on its own. People just to busy to think about it. Not just in Korea but most part of the world too.

Recycling with bags is far easier and more convenient for people to use; the ease of using bags encourages people to reycle far more than people who use bins.
In Korea, you can get bag hangers to hold your recycling bags at www.funshop.co.kr
We also use them in Canada, where we have some of the highest recycling rates; you can get them in North America at www.createsomespace.com
They are worth it!
