I believe this highlights how we in New Zealand have been as remiss as many other countries - we have been a little better at "covering our tracks"!

Successive Governments offered subsidies to cloak the ground in superphosphate, fell the bush, offer tax incentives to exploit, etc. The effects have been profound on our small, fragile country.

Now our major waterways are suffering. Urban encroachment is swallowing up our premiuum soils and heavily intensified dairy farming is being executed on light unsuitable soils. The powerful farming lobby and the property developers have had an unbridled ability to "fudge" the issues for many years.

We now have to have the internal fortitude to say "enough"!
